Instrument Flight Training IR(H)

… qualifies to fly helicopters up to a minimum decision height of 200 feet (60m) under instrument meteorological conditions

The instrument flight training means a considerable increase in your flight competence and flight safety.

For the practical training we use the following helicopter types:

·         Eurocopter EC135

For the training on Synthetic Training Devices ( STD ) we use:

·         FNPT II und FNPT I Airplane

·         Eurocopter EC135 – FFS Level A

·         Eurocopter EC135 – FNPT II MCC

·         Eurocopter EC145 – FFS Level A

·         Bell 412/212 – FFS


Course of training

The Instrument Flight Training consists of a theoretical (combination of distance learning and ground course) and practical part.

The theoretical training comprises the following subjects [CPL(H) and ATPL(H) holders get a training credit ]

-         Air Law

-         General Aicraft Knowledge/Technics

-         Flight Performance and Flight Planning

-         Human Performance and Limitations

-         Navigation

-         Meteorology

-         Radio Communications ( not applicable for holders of a general radio communication certificate )

Completion of the theoretical training

The theoretical examination will be taken at the federal aviation authority in Braunschweig, after finishing the theoretical training. The passed examination has a validity period of 36 months.

Practical Training

The practical training starts during the theoretical training and will be finished after passing the theoretical examination. In at least 50 flight hours you will learn how to fly the helicopter under instrument meteorological conditions. Up to 40 hours of the practical training can be performed in a so called synthetic training device (STD).

 

Requirements
for Instrument Flight Training:

·         PPL(H) with night qualification, ATPL(H) or CPL(H)

·         at least 50 hours cross country flight time as pilot in command on helicopters or airplanes, of them at least 10 hours on helicopters

·         Aeromedical Certificate

·         Valid reliability check

·         Excerpt of the central card-index for Traffic Offences, for German residents

·         Copy of the actual license and proof of flight experience

·         If existing, accredited copy of AZF (General Certificate of Radio Communications)

·         The applicant for an IR(H) has to prove the ability to apply the English language

·         Type rating or finished type rating course of the type, on which the IR(H) check shall be performed (we gladly offer applicable trainings)

·         1 passport photograph
